With that being said, the State of Emergency remains in effect.
While conditions may seem to have improved, we ask all residents and businesses to remain prepared should circumstances change.
We are incredibly proud of how our community has responded - working together, supporting one another, and rising to meet these challenges head-on. Thank you to everyone who played a role in helping keep our community safe.
  • Drinking Water Advisory Lifted for the Town of Mindemoya
Public Health Sudbury & Districts has officially lifted the Drinking Water Advisory that came into effect Sunday, April 12th, 2026, for all residents of the Town of Mindemoya who get their water from the Mindemoya Water Treatment System.
Please note that with the advisory lifted and water service restored, the Municipal Office will now return to regular operating hours (Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm).
What to do after a Drinking Water Advisory is lifted and before using the water:
    • Run cold water faucets or fountains for 5 minutes or until the water runs clear.
    • Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle.
    • Drain and refill hot water heaters.
    • Large-volume users may need to run cold water taps longer on first use.
    • To get rid of sediment, faucet screens should be removed, rinsed and put back in.

  • Increased Flood Risk for the Town of Mindemoya

The Municipality is advising that there is a high possibility of further flooding in the Town of Mindemoya.

The Municipality has been advised by the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre that approximately 20mm of rain is expected by tomorrow morning. The Municipality has also been advised by the Ministry of Natural Resources that they will be removing ½ a log from the Big Lake Dam tomorrow.

    Areas impacted will include:

    • Hwy 542 (from Elliot Road to Hwy 551)
    • Hwy 551 (from Hwy 542 to Hare’s Creek)
    • Thorne Street (from Forest Street to Yonge Street)
    • Forest Street (from Thorne Street to Hwy 542)

The combination of these events may result in significant flooding within the town tomorrow, and overnight to Sunday morning.

  • Drinking Water Advisory Update as of April 15th, 2026
Public Health Sudbury & Districts has advised the Municipality that the Drinking Water Advisory will remain in effect until flooding conditions have subsided.
Although the water treatment plant is producing safe, potable water, flooding may compromise the distribution system throughout the community. As a result, residents are to continue following all Public Health recommendations and not use municipal water for drinking or food preparation until the advisory is lifted.
    Potable Water Access:
Potable water will now be available for residents at the Mindemoya Water Treatment Place located at 61 Old Highway 551, Mindemoya, free of charge. Please bring your own containers where applicable.
Bottled water will remain available at the Municipal Office for those who do not have access to containers.
The Municipal Office will be open until 7 pm for the remainder of the week for water pickup.
We appreciate your continued patience and cooperation as we work through this situation.
Updates will be shared as they become available.
  • State of Emergency Declared on April 14th, 2026
The Municipality of Central Manitoulin has declared a State of Emergency effective 11:13 am on April 14, 2026, due to extreme flooding in parts of the municipality.
Rapid snowmelt combined with significant rainfall has caused water levels to rise quickly, creating hazardous conditions in several areas.
    Residents are asked to:
    • Avoid all flooded roads and areas if possible.
    • Use extreme caution if necessary travel is required. Flooded roadways can be difficult to see, and high speeds can result in sudden loss of control and possible collisions.
    • Follow all posted road closures and detours. Driving on closed roads is dangerous and against the law.
    • Monitor municipal updates for ongoing information. Plan accordingly and adjust travel as needed.
Municipal crews are actively responding and working to manage the situation. The safety of our residents remains our top priority.
Please continue to check our website and social media channels for updates as conditions evolve.
  • Drinking Water Advisory Issued for Mindemoya

Public Health Sudbury & Districts has issued a Drinking Water Advisory, effective immediately, for all residents of the Town of Mindemoya who receive water from the Mindemoya water treatment system.

This advisory follows a loss of water pressure that temporarily interrupted the municipal water supply. While service has since been restored, residents are advised not to use tap water for human consumption until further notice.

Under the Drinking Water Advisory, municipal water should NOT be used for drinking, making juice, infant formula, or ice, cooking, washing uncooked fruits and vegetables, and brushing teeth.

Boiling the water may not make it safe. Residents are strongly encouraged to use an alternate water source, such as bottled or potable water.

Municipal water can still be used for laundry and bathing (excluding small children who may swallow the water).

Public Health Sudbury & Districts will continue to monitor the situation and will notify the municipality when the advisory can be lifted.

To support residents during this advisory, the Municipality has arranged for potable water access from a water truck located outside the Mindemoya Arena. Residents are asked to bring their own containers to fill. There is also bottled water available at the Municipal Office in limited quantities. Residents may come in and request bottled water if needed.

The water truck will be available until 9:00 p.m. today, and the Municipal Office will remain open until that time for bottled water distribution on April 13th, 2026.

Residents are encouraged to use the potable water truck and fill personal containers first, helping to ensure bottled water remains available for those who need it most.

Information on water truck availability for tomorrow will be shared on the Municipality’s website and social media channels.

Residents are encouraged to monitor the Municipality’s website and social media pages for updates regarding the Drinking Water Advisory and water availability.

The Municipality thanks residents for their patience and cooperation as Public Health continues to assess the situation.

  • Weather Advisory from March 16, 2026, Has Been Lifted
The Municipality of Central Manitoulin advises residents that the Inclement Weather Advisory issued on March 16, 2026, has been lifted.
Municipal road crews have completed the necessary work, and roads and sidewalks have returned to normal maintenance standards.
The Municipality would like to extend a sincere thank you to the road crew for their hard work and dedication throughout the weather event. Their efforts, often in challenging conditions and at all hours, are greatly appreciated.
Thank you as well to the public for your patience and cooperation while we worked to restore safe conditions throughout the municipality.
  • Sidewalk Maintenance Efforts In Progress

The Municipality of Central Manitoulin advises residents that sidewalk maintenance has been challenging following the recent storm. Significant ice and snow accumulation has made it difficult for standard equipment, and the sidewalk cleaner is not sufficient under the current conditions.

Crews will be bringing in heavier equipment to properly remove the buildup and restore safe access along municipal walkways. This work will take time, and we appreciate the public’s patience as crews work to address these conditions.

Residents are urged to avoid using the sidewalks, as the current surfaces will be slippery and uneven. Please also exercise care when approaching or passing any equipment being used for snow and ice removal.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to improve sidewalk safety.

  • J.H. Burt Memorial Arena Reopens

The J.H. Burt Memorial Arena has reopened after a temporary closure due to flooding caused by inclement weather. Municipal staff acted quickly to assess the damage and carry out the necessary repairs.

Staff successfully repaired the flooding damage to the ice surface and completed the cleanup of the water. These efforts have allowed the facility to safely reopen.

All regular programming and facility rentals have now resumed as normal. The Municipality thanks the arena users and the public for their patience and cooperation during the closure.

  • Temporary Closure of JH Burt Memorial Arena

Please be advised that the JH Burt Memorial Arena is temporarily closed due to flooding caused by inclement weather. As a result, all regular programming held in the Mindemoya arena, including public skating, has been cancelled while the situation is being addressed.

Municipal staff are actively working to rectify the issue and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Please continue to monitor the municipal website for further updates.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
