The Municipality of Central Manitoulin has received correspondence from the Office of the Ontario Ombudsman regarding a complaint about a closed session discussion held during a special council meeting on September 17, 2025.
The complaint alleged that Council improperly discussed a matter in closed session, contrary to the open meeting rules outlined in the Municipal Act, 2001.
Following a review by the Ombudsman’s Office, it was determined that the meeting did not contravene the open meeting requirements under the Act and after examining the matter, the Office concluded that Council acted within the rules set out in provincial legislation.
