Significant Weather Event Declared and Municipal Office Closure on March 16th, 2026
The Municipality of Central Manitoulin is advising residents that an Inclement Weather Advisory remains in effect as of March 15, 2026, due to hazardous winter conditions including snow and ice. As a result, the Central Manitoulin Municipal Office will be closed on Monday, March 16, 2026.
These conditions may result in slippery and unsafe roads and sidewalks, and municipal crews may not be able to maintain all areas to regular service levels.
Residents are encouraged to use caution when travelling within the municipality and to avoid unnecessary travel if possible.
Municipal staff will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates on the municipal website and social media as conditions change.

The Municipality of Central Manitoulin is advising residents that a Significant Weather Event has been declared, effective immediately.
Due to inclement weather, please be advised that all municipal facilities, including the Providence Bay and J.H. Burt Memorial Arenas, will be closed this evening.
Additionally, tonight’s Finance and Economic Development Committee meeting will be held virtually only. Members of the public wishing to attend are asked to join online.

Due to the colder weather, the Central Manitoulin Council Chambers will be open as a warming station on January 15th, 2026, from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm for the public to use.
Public Health Sudbury & Districts has officially lifted the drinking water advisory that came into effect Thursday, May 8, 2025, for all residents of the Town of Mindemoya who get their water from the Mindemoya water treatment system on Douglas Street, Yonge Street south of Douglas Street, King Street (HWY 542) and areas south of King Street (HWY 542
Public Health Sudbury & Districts has issued a drinking water advisory effective immediately for all residents of the Town of Mindemoya who get their water from the Mindemoya water treatment system on Douglas Street, Yonge Street south of Douglas Street, King Street (HWY 542), and areas south of King Street (HWY 542).
Please be advised the floating municipal water intake pipe hazard in the vicinity of the bay in front of Ketchankookem Trail and Old Highway 551 on Lake Mindemoya at approximately 45.750610 Latitude , -82.166376 Longitude is no longer a hazard to boating traffic.
Please note the repair crew is still in the area securing the weights to the intake pipe.
The Municipality of Central Manitoulin has been issued a Permit Under Clause 17(2)(c) of the Endangered Species Act, 2007 by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. This is specific to the Providence Bay beach and boardwalk maintenance. The work is part of ongoing restoration of the beach that assists the natural ecosystem. These actions are expected to improve the area for the enjoyment of visitors and enhance the protected habitat, the dune, for species at risk.
Update 2024-09-19: The floating intake pipe is not longer a hazard to boating traffic but work continues on securing the pipe to the lake bottom at the time of this update.
Due to the current heat wave the Municipality is opening its cooling station located at 6020 Highway 542 in Mindemoya, ON. The location is open from 8:30am - 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.
The station will open July 31st, 2024 until further notice.
