State of Emergency Update as of April 23rd, 2026Over the past couple of weeks, our community has faced some incredibly challenging conditions. Through it all, residents, businesses, and volunteers came together in a way that truly reflects the strength and resilience of Central Manitoulin. The support, cooperation, and care shown for one another has not gone unnoticed.At this time:
- All municipal roadways are open. However, some areas will continue to be monitored regularly by our Roads Department to ensure conditions remain safe.
- The Ministry of Natural Resources will continue to monitor the Big Lake Dam and will advise the Municipality if any further operation of the Dam is required.
- Municipal programming and facility rentals will resume as of Saturday, April 25th, 2026.
- The Drinking Water Advisory has been lifted for the Town of Mindemoya as of Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026.
With that being said, the State of Emergency remains in effect.While conditions may seem to have improved, we ask all residents and businesses to remain prepared should circumstances change.We are incredibly proud of how our community has responded - working together, supporting one another, and rising to meet these challenges head-on. Thank you to everyone who played a role in helping keep our community safe. -
Municipal Facility Rentals and Municipal Programming Cancelled Until Further NoticePlease be advised that all municipal facility rentals and all municipal programming have been cancelled until further notice due to the current emergency situation.This decision has been made to allow staff to focus on emergency response efforts and help reduce non-essential travel within the municipality.We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Municipal Office Closed March 16th, 2026
ase be advised that the Central Manitoulin Municipal Office will be closed today, March 16, 2026, due to the ongoing weather advisory and hazardous road conditions.
Updates will be shared as conditions change.

Municipal Building Closures
Due to inclement weather, please be advised that all municipal facilities, including the Providence Bay and J.H. Burt Memorial Arenas, will be closed this evening.
Additionally, tonight’s Finance and Economic Development Committee meeting will be held virtually only. Members of the public wishing to attend are asked to join online.

J.H. Burt Memorial Arena Reopens
The J.H. Burt Memorial Arena has reopened after a temporary closure due to flooding caused by inclement weather. Municipal staff acted quickly to assess the damage and carry out the necessary repairs.
Staff successfully repaired the flooding damage to the ice surface and completed the cleanup of the water. These efforts have allowed the facility to safely reopen.
All regular programming and facility rentals have now resumed as normal. The Municipality thanks the arena users and the public for their patience and cooperation during the closure.

Temporary Closure of JH Burt Memorial Arena
Please be advised that the JH Burt Memorial Arena is temporarily closed due to flooding caused by inclement weather. As a result, all regular programming held in the Mindemoya arena, including public skating, has been cancelled while the situation is being addressed.
Municipal staff are actively working to rectify the issue and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
Please continue to monitor the municipal website for further updates.

Please be advised that the municipal office will be closed on Monday, September 29th, 2025 from 9:30 am - 2:30 pm to allow staff and council to attend training.

Mindemoya Arena Open for the Season
The Municipality of Central Manitoulin is pleased to announce the J.H. Burt Memorial Arena (Mindemoya Arena) is open for skating! We thank the public for their patience while Parks and Recreation Crews worked diligently during the unseasonably warm weather to create ice and open the facility.
