Significant Weather Event
March 11, 2026 – 3:30 p.m.
The Municipality of Central Manitoulin is advising residents that a Significant Weather Event has been declared, effective immediately.
Current weather conditions, including freezing rain and ice buildup, have created unsafe conditions on roads and sidewalks. At this time, municipal crews are unable to keep these areas at the usual level of service.
Drivers and pedestrians are asked to proceed with caution when travelling within the municipality. Residents are encouraged to postpone non-essential travel until conditions improve.
Municipal staff will continue to monitor the situation and respond as conditions allow. Notices will be posted on the municipal website and social media when the Significant Weather Event has been lifted and regular maintenance standards resume.

The Municipality of Central Manitoulin will be hosting a public meeting to gather community input on the future of the Providence Bay arena and Spring Bay Hall. Residents are invited to attend, ask questions, and share their perspectives directly with Council.
The meeting will take place on February 11th, 2026, at 7:00 pm, at the Providence Bay Hall.
Members of the public who wish to speak may register in advance and will be provided up to five minutes per speaker. If time permits, after all registered speakers have had an opportunity, the floor will then open to individuals who have not pre-registered.
To assist Council in preparing thorough responses and to better ensure questions are being answered, residents are encouraged to submit their questions in writing in advance by February 6th, 2026.
Those wishing to register to speak and/or to submit their questions may contact the CAO/Clerk by email at ddeforge@centralmanitoulin.ca. People can also drop their questions off in person at the municipal office.
