Paid Youth Entrepreneurship Program for youth 18 to 30 for Manitoulin

YOUTH ENTREPRENEUSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM - Cambrian College 

Participants must register by January 25, 2021.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

Over 20 weeks in each segment, Cambrian will deliver Employment and Skills Strategy to assist 20 youth to overcome barriers to employment and to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to make a successful transition to the labour market through entrepreneurship or return to school.

ACTIVITIES:

The program will be delivered 100% virtually.

*THE FIRST GROUP BEGINS FEBRUARY 8TH

Manitoulin Start Date: February 8, 2021

Espanola Start Date: July 26, 2021

Participants will be paid an allowance equivalent to the Ontario minimum wage rate.

TIMELINES

Essential Skills Development and Employability-Based Workshops – (2 weeks)

- will include essential skills and employability workshops to provide a base to learning all other skills, and enable youth to better prepare for entrepreneurship and employment.  -will include but are not limited to: Self-Awareness, Financial Literacy, Communication Skills, Decision Making, Problem Solving and Basic English and Math skills as required. 

Entrepreneurial Skills Development, Business Plan Development, Implementation and Start-Up (14 weeks)

A variety of hands-on and independent instructional styles will be utilized based on the needs of the group.  Workshop topics for Entrepreneurial Skills Development will include, but are not limited to: Introduction to Business Bookkeeping, Computers and Basic Website Development, Marketing/Sales/Promotion/Social Media, Day to Day Business Operations, How to Recruit, Hire & Manage Employees, Regulations, Legislation and Taxation, Market Research, Business Plan Development.  Consultants from the community, including small business owners, will assist in the project in the form of workshop delivery.

The final weeks of this phase will focus on identifying sources of financing, securing financial supports, business registration, rental/lease agreements, permits and licenses/legal requirements.  Participants will also create an implementation, marketing and promotional Plan, and will be trained on subjects such as purchasing stock and hiring staff.  By the end of this phase, participants will implement their business plan and launch their business.

Business Operation, Mentorship and Aftercare (4 weeks)

Participants will be engaged in active business start-up, operations, and growth activities which will allow them to develop the business skills they acquired from the workshops covered during the previous phases. 

Cambrian will provide on-going support and mentorship to the participants and focus on the identification of issues or needs that could affect the ongoing success of the business and the participant.  As issues are identified, Cambrian will assist participants to explore possible solutions.  Participants will also continue to work with business mentors in order to further develop their knowledge, expertise and skills in business operation and management.
