Organized Minor Hockey Practices
- Background
Organized hockey will be limited to practices only. The following rules are measures put in place to reasonably protect members of the public when they are attending or using the Providence Bay Arena under the new restrictions implemented by Public Health Sudbury & Districts for December 11, 2021. Organized Sports i.e. hockey, including practices, are treated differently than public skating under COVID-19 current rules coming into effect. - General COVID-19 Safety Rules
All other rules stay in place, proof of vaccine for age 12 plus, two metre distancing, masks, contact tracing. Two metres physical distancing same as before with the exception of caregivers (parents and children etc.) tying skates etc.
- Arena Capacity
Limited to one team at a time. This means one full team roster coaches, trainers and managers may be on the ice.
- Spectator Capacity
One parent or guardian per child allows for personal enjoyment (mental health) of the public but assists in keeping the numbers of attendees to a minimum. This point will be reassessed after the first week.
- Modified Sport Practice
Team sports or games that may result in personal contact must not be practiced or played at the facility unless the sport has been modified to avoid personal contact. Minor Hockey is expected to modify play for practices to stay at least 2 m apart wherever feasible.
- Arrival, Departure Times
Entering the facility 15 minutes before the start of the event. Depart the facility within 15 minutes following the event.
- Dressing Rooms and Dressing Procedures
Maximum 5 players per dressing room. Participants in all sports and recreational fitness activities to arrive at the facility fully or partially dressed to minimize time spent in changing room facilities, except for goalies and persons with disabilities. All dressing rooms will be utilized.
- Masks within the facility
Participants in all sports and recreational fitness activities to remain masked as long as possible before engaging in their sport or recreational fitness activity including in changerooms. Spectators must wear masks.
- Washrooms
All washrooms limited to one (1) person at a time.

Learn to Skate 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Public Skating 1:30pm - 3:00pm

Phone 705-377-4090 and leave a message to book a public skating registration. Leave your name, number, public skating time, number of skaters and number of spectators.
- Arrival, Departure Times
Entering the facility 15 minutes before the start of the event. Depart the facility within 15 minutes following the event.
- Masks within the facility
Participants and spectators are required to wear masks at all times during public skating.
- Dressing Rooms
Only 5 people permitted at a time per dressing room. As many dressing rooms deemed necessary will be opened and used.
- Washrooms
All washrooms limited to one (1) person at a time.
- Social Distancing on Ice
Participants are expected to remain two metres apart unless in the same family unit.
Sponge Puck
Sponge puck is cancelled until further notice. Due to the sports traditionally unorganized play the Municipality does not feel it has the staff or resources to reasonably run this sport while keeping participants safe within the current COVID-19 restrictions.
Private Rentals – Skating Only

- Permitted Activities - Skating only
No hockey, pickup hockey, sponge puck or other sports permitted. Due to the unstructured nature of private rentals the Municipality cannot reasonably ensure the safety of attendees for sports activities.
Adult Recreational Hockey

- Arena Capacity
Limited to one adult recreational hockey group at a time. Maximum of 18 players.
- Spectator Capacity
No spectators.
- Modified Sport
Team sports or games that may result in personal contact must not be practiced or played at the facility unless the sport has been modified to avoid personal contact. Adult recreational hockey is expected to stay at least 2 m apart wherever feasible. Limited to modified practice only. A modified practice that promotes passing for minimal contact. No contact contests for the puck, especially in the corners and front of the net.
- Arrival, Departure Times
Entering the facility 20 minutes before the start of the event. Depart the facility within 20 minutes following the event.
- Dressing Rooms and Dressing Procedures
Maximum 5 players per dressing room. Participants in all sports and recreational fitness activities to arrive at the facility fully or partially dressed where feasible in consideration of safety when driving to the facility etc. to minimize time spent in changing room facilities. There is an exception for goalies and persons with disabilities. All dressing rooms deemed necessary will be utilized.
- Masks within the facility
Participants in all sports and recreational fitness activities to remain masked as long as possible before engaging in their sport or recreational fitness activity including in changerooms.
- Showers
No showers are to be used.
- Washrooms
All washrooms limited to one (1) person at a time.
- Benches
Players are expected to stay 2 metres apart wherever feasible on the benches.
