Mindemoya Old School Repurposing Community Needs Assessment Survey

The Municipality of Central Manitoulin (MCM) is assessing the feasibility of repurposing the Mindemoya Old School (School). The purpose of the Community Needs Assessment Survey is to obtain your input and feedback by July 12, 2019 on the potential usage that could be made with the School.

SITUATIONAL CONTEXT

As most of you are aware the School, which is considered as an historical building by many, has been vacant for some years.

The MCM has two options:

  • Demolish and remove the School;
  • Repurpose the School.

In order to repurpose the School we would require financial assistance from the Federal and Provincial governments. The proposed type of use for the building will dictate if the School is eligible to apply for government assistance. Some of the eligible uses are business incubators and a high tech training / workshop center with high speed internet connectivity and a gathering place Multi-Use Facility.

To move forward we need to identify:

  • Uses for the multi-use facility;
  • Potential tenants for the proposed business incubators (cannot compete against MCM existing businesses);
  • An anchor tenant (cannot compete against MCM existing businesses).
